With the Cougars loss to Florida State, the non-BCS conferences' hopes and dreams now hinge on Boise State. They're in the playoff right now, and with a smooth road for the rest of the season should stick around in the play-in games for a while. TCU could have had a shot at stealing a play-in slot if BYU had stayed undefeated until their game against the Horned-Toads, but it looks as though the boost from beating a highly ranked BYU team just isn't in the cards. Houston is the non-BCS darkhorse. With games against Texas Tech and Mississippi State, wins against BCS opponents may be just enough to elevate an undefeated C-USA team above the Broncos although it may depend on how the Red Raiders bounce back from their loss to Texas. Getting back to the bracket and how it is shaping up, I can see one major flaw in the invited teams as of right now: There are four teams representing the SEC. While this would obviously be of contention if it all ended today, this problem will be sorted about by late November and definitely fixed by conference championship weekend. LSU still has to play Florida, Alabma, and Ole Miss. Alabama and Ole Miss still have to play each other. With these match ups still to come, a couple of these SEC teams will inevitably drop out of the play off, making room for perhaps a second PAC-10 team (USC) and a second Big Ten team (Ohio State). Right now, let's just sit back and enjoy the ride... and the landscape. Feel free to leave your comments or send your thoughts to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
